About us

idid’s primary purpose is to provide a free link to grassroot organisations so your donation goes direct to the people who most need the money and who can make the best use of whatever you give.

During multiple visits to a range of low income settlements, I have worked with and relied upon a number of amazing people and community groups. The more time spent working with local people, the greater I have come to appreciate their abilities to resolve many local difficulties and provide sustainable solutions with limited resources. Creating this website has been inspired by the community groups based in Kenyan informal settlements, who achieve so much with so few resources.

These experiences led us to wonder how much more they could achieve with a fraction of the donations that are given to international NGOs.  For instance, in 2022 Save the Children International had $2.5 billion income and employed 26,458 members of staff who cost over $408 million. This is not to claim that many NGOs do not contribute towards positive impacts.  Nevertheless, there are countless examples where considerable amounts of money is spent on NGO bureaucracy, misdirected projects that do not meet local requirements, fail to contribute to local sustainability and empowerment or are allocated to poorly governed groups.  Instead of so much money being spent on processes and Western employees, we encourage more donations to be paid directly to local people who could transform lives within communities, in ways that empower and are sustainable.

our purpose

idid aims to address the problems of:

  1. Local community difficulties in accessing funding.
  2. Wasteful and destructive actions by (some) international charities.

We aim to help some of these grassroots organisations better connect to donors and for donors to give directly to projects where they can see the difference their money makes, to transform the lives of local people and communities.

OUR OBJECTIVES

Following discussions with trusted community leaders in Kenya, idid was formed with three objectives:

1) To increase levels of funding to community groups working in informal settlements so that they can deliver their own sustainable solutions to transform local lives and the environment.

 2) To connect donors to Kenyan grassroots community groups with projects they support so they can be confident that their money is spent on the projects they choose.

3) Work with grassroots organisations to raise their online profile so that more people are aware of the amazing work they deliver.

To achieve this, we have combined our experiences of local knowledge, marketing and communications to provide a free bridge that enables you to select groups and issues you most want to support.  All you have to do is check out the community groups and then click to go directly to their websites and/or funding pages for direct donations.

If you are thinking about a particular project that you would like to develop, or would like one of the groups to develop on your behalf, please feel free to contact us to discuss further possibilities.
